Naples Pass and Naples city passes

One card gets you into Pompeii, Herculaneum and the museum of the Farnese Bull, and it's good for a year from the first visit.

©

For a Naples pass, start with the Campania Artecard 365 Lite: one entry at each site on its list, and the list has Pompeii, Herculaneum, the Archaeological Museum, the Royal Palace of Caserta and Paestum. Under-18s go into those sites free, so only the adults need a card. Each of the four other passes adds something the Artecard doesn't have, and the Naples City Card is the only one with the Sansevero Chapel.

Campania Artecard 365 Lite: Pompeii, Herculaneum and the state museums for a year

The Campania Artecard is the region’s own museum card, and its 365 Lite version is the one to buy if Pompeii is on your list. It gives you one entry a year at each site it covers, and that list takes in the places a trip to Naples is built around: Pompeii, Herculaneum, the Archaeological Museum and the Royal Palace of Caserta.

In the city it also covers Capodimonte, the Royal Palace on Piazza del Plebiscito, Castel Nuovo, and Castel Sant’Elmo with the Certosa di San Martino next to it on the Vomero hill. Further out come Oplontis, the Greek temples of Paestum, and Baia, Cumae and the amphitheatre of Pozzuoli in the Campi Flegrei.

The 365 Lite costs €31, comes with an audio guide app for Naples and can be cancelled up to 24 hours before. It has no transport. Under-18s go into the state sites free, so only the adults in your group need a card, and EU citizens aged 18 to 25 have a cheaper Young option at checkout.

How the Artecard works at the gates

  1. 1The year starts at the first site: the 365 Lite runs for a year from the first entry you make with it, not from the day you buy it.
  2. 2At Pompeii: there's no time slot to book. Go in by the Piazza Esedra entrance, kept for card holders and groups, and collect your named ticket at the ticket office there, with your ID.
  3. 3At Caserta: use the main gate on Piazza Carlo di Borbone and collect your ticket at the Infopoint.
  4. 4In the Campi Flegrei: reserve the entry your card includes in the Musei Italiani app before you go to Baia, Cumae or the amphitheatre at Pozzuoli.
  5. 5On the first Sunday of the month: the state sites are free for everyone, and the card doesn't get you in ahead of anyone.

Is the Campania Artecard worth it? The sums on our tickets

Two sites pay for it. Our Pompeii ticket costs €27.50 and the Archaeological Museum’s €24, so those two alone come to more than the 365 Lite, and every other site you use it at is on top: Herculaneum at €19.50, Oplontis at €21, Caserta at €35. Capodimonte, the Royal Palace and Castel Sant’Elmo are on it too, and the card lets you in at your own pace at all three.

What it leaves out matters as much. At Pompeii the card stops at the city walls, before the Villa of the Mysteries. Vesuvius isn’t on it, and nor are the Sansevero Chapel and the Napoli Sotterranea, which are privately run. The Catacombs of San Gennaro, the Galleria Borbonica and the Pio Monte della Misericordia, with Caravaggio’s Seven Works of Mercy, aren’t on the 365 Lite at all; the 7-day card and the 365 Gold get you a discount at them, not an included entry.

The calculator near the top of the page does the sum for your own list: tick the places you’ll visit and it shows what each pass saves you against the tickets one by one. Before you settle on your days, check them against the closing days, because a Tuesday in Naples shuts several sites at once.

When the passes' sites close

Tuesdays
The Archaeological Museum, Caserta, Oplontis, Castel Sant'Elmo, the Certosa di San Martino, Villa Pignatelli and the museum at Villa Floridiana, and the Sansevero Chapel
Wednesdays

Sundays
Castel Nuovo, which also shuts on public holidays
Mondays
Gallerie d'Italia, one of the 7-day card's picks
Monday to Thursday
The Galleria Borbonica, which opens only from Friday to Sunday and on holidays
Open every day

Campania Artecard 7 days and 365 Gold: five picks, or two entries a year

The same listing sells two more versions. The 7-day card costs €49 and runs for seven days from the first site you enter, each day ending at midnight. Instead of one entry everywhere, it gives you five included sites of your choice, with a discount from the sixth.

Its list is longer than the Lite’s, and the extra names are the reason to buy it. Gallerie d’Italia on Via Toledo, the bank museum that hangs Caravaggio’s last painting, is one of the picks, and so are the Filangieri museum on Via Duomo, Villa Rufolo’s terraces in Ravello on the Amalfi Coast and the MAV, the virtual archaeology museum at Herculaneum. For Pompeii and four other state sites, though, the 365 Lite costs less and has no seven-day clock.

The 365 Gold, at €56, gives you two entries a year at each of its included sites and a discount at the others. That second entry is what you pay for, so it’s the version for a return trip within the year.

Naples Museum Card: seven days with Pompeii, Caserta and the Galleria Borbonica

If you want the big state sites and the private ones on a single card, the Naples Museum Card is a version of the Naples Pass that runs for seven days from the first site you use it at. At €99.90 it’s the dearest pass on this page.

The state side is Pompeii’s ancient city, Herculaneum, the Archaeological Museum, the Royal Palace of Caserta and Paestum, plus Capodimonte, the Royal Palace, Castel Nuovo and Castel Sant’Elmo in the city. The private side is what sets it apart. Underground, it has the standard tour of the Galleria Borbonica, the Bourbon tunnel under the Pizzofalcone hill, the Catacombs of San Gennaro and the Neapolis Sotterrata, a Roman street under the church of San Lorenzo Maggiore. Above ground come the Treasure of San Gennaro, with the jewels Naples gave its patron saint, the Filangieri museum in a 15th-century palace on Via Duomo, and the Renaissance church complex of Sant’Anna dei Lombardi.

The list ends with Museodivino, a museum of miniatures that was closed for building work until November 2026, so check it has reopened, and a slice of pizza with a soft drink at Pizzeria al 22 or Pizzeria I Decumani.

How the Museum Card works

  1. 1In the app: download the Naples Pass app and add the credential that comes by email.
  2. 2At the state sites: show the grey QR code. At Pompeii you go in by Piazza Esedra and collect your named ticket at the desk there, with your ID.
  3. 3At the private sites: show the orange QR code. Book the Galleria Borbonica at mail@galleriaborbonica.com and the catacombs at prenotazioni@catacombedinapoli.it before you go.
  4. 4The seven days start at the first site you visit with it.

Despite the Vesuvius in its Tiqets title, it doesn’t include the volcano. It has no transport and no Sansevero either, and apart from the Galleria Borbonica and the catacombs, which are always guided, no guided tours or audio guides. Once bought, it can’t be refunded or changed.

On our tickets, Pompeii, Herculaneum, the Archaeological Museum and Caserta already come to more than the Museum Card. But the 365 Lite covers those four for €31. Add our tickets for the Galleria Borbonica (€15), the catacombs (€13), the Treasure (€15) and San Lorenzo (€10), and you’re still under the Museum Card. What the extra buys you is one app for the whole week, with the Filangieri, Sant’Anna dei Lombardi and the pizza on it.

Naples Museums & Underground Card: the Galleria Borbonica, the catacombs and the Treasure

The Museums & Underground Card keeps the private half of the Museum Card and drops the state sites. It’s another version of the Naples Pass, with a shorter list. For €49 you get the Galleria Borbonica’s standard tour, the Catacombs of San Gennaro, the Neapolis Sotterrata under San Lorenzo Maggiore, the Treasure of San Gennaro, the Filangieri museum and Museodivino. An hour on an electric bike and 20 per cent off SNAV’s fast ferries to Ischia and Procida come with it.

An old motorbike lit against the rock wall, with a bicycle and a rusted car further along an arched gallery of the Bourbon Tunnel

At each site you swap the voucher for a paper ticket at the ticket office, and the Galleria Borbonica and the catacombs are booked by email, as with the Museum Card. No validity period is given, so fit the visits around their own days: the Galleria Borbonica opens only from Friday to Sunday and the catacombs close on Wednesdays, which makes a weekend the easy choice. It can’t be refunded.

Four visits are what it’s for. On our tickets the Galleria Borbonica costs €15, the catacombs €13, the Treasure €15 and San Lorenzo €10, which together come to more than the card; leave out any one of them and they come to less. The Filangieri and Museodivino are on top.

Naples City Card: the Veiled Christ, the Archaeological Museum and an underground tour

The Veiled Christ, the marble Christ under a marble shroud that the Neapolitan sculptor Giuseppe Sanmartino finished in 1753, stands in the Sansevero Chapel and is on one pass only: the Naples City Card. It costs €72, with a cheaper option for students aged 18 to 24, and it’s a bundle of dated tickets rather than a card you swipe. You pick a start date and your underground option, and the tickets come by email.

The bundle holds a hosted entry to the chapel at a booked time, with an audio guide; the Archaeological Museum with an audio guide app; one underground tour, picked from three: the Napoli Sotterranea from Piazza San Gaetano, the wartime air-raid shelter under the Spanish Quarters near Via Toledo, or the Catacombs of San Gennaro in English; and an audio guide app for the city. The chapel’s host speaks Italian, with a live translation by radio. A 10 per cent code for five more Tiqets bookings in Naples, valid for a month, comes with it.

Giuseppe Sanmartino's marble Veiled Christ, the dead Christ lying under a thin shroud, seen from beside the body
Sanmartino's Veiled Christ, in the Sansevero Chapel Photo: David Sivyer, CC BY-SA 2.0

Bought one by one, the four parts cost about what the card does, as the receipt below shows, and with the catacombs as your underground pick they cost less, since that tour is the cheapest of the three. So the card is about having the chapel’s time slot, the museum and the underground in one booking. It can’t be cancelled, every part depends on availability on your dates, and no validity period is given after the start date, so plan the four visits close together.

If the chapel is the part you’re after, our hosted entry costs €25.18 on its own, and the guided visit in English €22.40. If you’re buying the Artecard anyway, it already has the museum, so take one of those chapel tickets and the Napoli Sotterranea at €18 on their own rather than the City Card, which would pay for the museum twice.

Naples City Center Pass: the Archaeological Museum, the Treasure and the Lapis Museum

Three visits in the old town make up the City Center Pass, another Tiqets bundle, at €50.50. You get the Archaeological Museum with an audio guide app; the Treasure of San Gennaro with its audio guide, which carries on into the Chapel of San Gennaro in the cathedral; and the Lapis Museum, the water museum in the Greek and Roman cisterns under the Basilica of Pietrasanta, where an archaeological lift takes you down from the crypt in 20 seconds. An audio guide app for the city completes it.

Unlike the City Card, this bundle costs less than its parts: the receipt below adds up the four tickets at our prices, and the pass comes in under them. You choose a start date and the tickets come by email; as with the City Card, they can’t be cancelled and no validity period is given. Children up to 17 have their own option, bought with an adult’s, and over-65s pay less. Keep the museum off a Tuesday, when it’s shut.

Which Naples pass to buy for your trip

If Pompeii is on your list, start with the Artecard 365 Lite and add tickets for whatever it leaves out. If you’re staying in the city, the choice follows what you want to see. The Sansevero Chapel means the City Card, the Galleria Borbonica and the catacombs mean the Museums & Underground Card, and the Archaeological Museum with the Treasure means the City Center Pass. The Museum Card puts Pompeii, Caserta and the private sites in one app for a week, though the 365 Lite plus a few tickets costs less.

Napoli Sotterranea, the Galleria Borbonica and the catacombs: which pass has which

Naples has several underground visits with near-identical names, and the passes don’t share them out evenly. The Napoli Sotterranea tour from Piazza San Gaetano and the Neapolis Sotterrata under San Lorenzo Maggiore sit on the same square, but they’re different places on different passes.

The underground visits and the passes

Catacombs of San Gennaro
On the Museum Card and the Museums & Underground Card, and an option on the City Card; a discount on the 7-day Artecard and the 365 Gold

Without a pass, each is a ticket of its own. The Napoli Sotterranea, the Galleria Borbonica and the catacombs are guided visits, and San Lorenzo comes with an audio guide.

Mount Vesuvius and the Villa of the Mysteries: tickets no Naples pass includes

Two of the region’s big visits sit outside every pass. Vesuvius, the volcano that buried Pompeii and Herculaneum, needs a ticket for a 10-minute slot bought before you go, because there’s no ticket office on the mountain. Ours costs €21.60, and the others below add the ride up from Ercolano or Naples. From November to February the last access to the crater trail is at 15:00, and the park shuts it on days with an orange weather alert.

At Pompeii, every pass stops at the city walls. The Villa of the Mysteries, whose painted hall shows the initiation rites of the cult of Dionysus, the god of wine, stands outside them with the Villa of Diomedes, on a route that starts at Porta Ercolano inside the site, where you pay the €8 whichever pass you hold. If you’d rather have a guide explain them, the tour with an archaeologist, from €49.50, has an option that includes the Villa of the Mysteries.

Naples public transport and the train to Pompeii with a city pass

None of the passes we sell includes transport, so the metro and the trains are paid as you go. In the city, a ride on metro line 1 costs €1.50 and a 90-minute ticket for buses and trains €1.90, or you tap a contactless card at the gates on the way in and again on the way out. The rest is on Naples public transport.

For the ruins, the Circumvesuviana’s Sorrento trains leave Napoli Garibaldi, below the central station, every 30 minutes and stop at Ercolano Scavi for Herculaneum, €2.60 one way, and Pompei Scavi for Pompeii, €3.30. The station at Pompeii is about 50 metres from the Porta Marina entrance, and the Circumvesuviana to Pompeii has the timetable. The ride in from the airport isn’t on any pass either; getting from Naples airport into the city has the options.

Frequently asked questions

Which Naples pass is the best?

For Pompeii, Herculaneum, the Archaeological Museum and Caserta, the Campania Artecard 365 Lite, at €31, with one entry at each for a year. For the Sansevero Chapel and its Veiled Christ, the Naples City Card, the only pass that includes it. For the Galleria Borbonica, the catacombs and the Treasure of San Gennaro, the Museums & Underground Card, and for those together with Pompeii and Caserta in one week, the Naples Museum Card.

Is the Campania Artecard worth it?

Yes, from the second big site. Our tickets for Pompeii, at €27.50, and the Archaeological Museum, at €24, already come to more than the 365 Lite's €31, and Herculaneum, Caserta, Capodimonte and the Royal Palace are on the same card. It doesn't include Vesuvius, the Sansevero Chapel or the Napoli Sotterranea.

How do you book Pompeii with the Artecard?

You don't: the Artecard has no time slot at Pompeii. You go in by the Piazza Esedra entrance, kept for card holders and groups, and collect your named ticket at the ticket office there with your ID.

Where can I buy the Campania Artecard?

Here. We sell three versions through Tiqets, the 365 Lite at €31, the 7-day card at €49 and the 365 Gold at €56, each with an audio guide app for Naples, and you can cancel up to 24 hours before.

Is there a 3-day pass for Naples?

For three days, the Campania Artecard 365 Lite is the one to buy: it costs less than the 7-day card, and its year leaves you room for a second trip. The Naples Museum Card runs for seven days from first use, and the Naples City Card and the City Center Pass are bundles of tickets for the dates you choose.

Does any Naples pass include Mount Vesuvius?

No. None of the passes includes the crater of Vesuvius, not even the Naples Museum Card, whose title on Tiqets names it. Every crater ticket is for a 10-minute slot bought before you go, and ours costs €21.60.

Which Naples pass includes the Sansevero Chapel?

Only the Naples City Card, of the passes we sell. It holds a hosted entry to the chapel at a booked time, with the Archaeological Museum and one underground tour. The Campania Artecard doesn't include the chapel, which is privately run.
